A loud district playoff game falls silent as a player hits the gym floor hard, raising concerns about a possible head injury. Her mother, who is also one of her coaches, kneels beside her, assessing her for any injuries while offering comfort. Thankfully, after what felt like an eternity, she managed to jump up, determined to continue playing.
While I don’t particularly like the circumstances of this photo, it holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite photos from tonight, and possibly the entire year thus far. It captures a raw moment in life amidst a challenging situation, yet it also beautifully portrays the love between a mother and her daughter.
Perhaps it’s because I’m a dad, but as soon as I took this photo, I was captivated by it on my camera’s LCD screen and I couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional, reminiscing about my own children playing their sports. The joy, the stress, and the worry we get watching them play the sports they love. I think any parent can connect with this photo that at the drop of a hat, we’ll be there by their side.
