Race To Seven Mile Ford
While leaving Marion today to return home, a Norfolk Southern freight train rumbled into view rolling southbound along side the highway. I had a feeling this morning before leaving to take my camera along just incase I saw something along the way, long behold I knew this was it. My mind lit up of locations to post up to capture the black beauties as they rumbled by. I did not have enough time to make it to the bridge outside of Chilhowie, thinking fast, I hit the interstate to beat the train to Seven Mile Ford. As I accelerated up the on ramp, I glanced back to see that the train had yet to make it out of town. Feeling good, I got off at the next exit, traveled down the highway a short ways before pulling over to get the camera out. I switched from my 24-100mm to 70-200mm as fast as I could, fearing I would miss a good shot of the train. Surprisingly, I had to wait what seemed like five to ten minutes in the cold wind before the train appeared from behind the trees. I wish there would have been snow on the trees and ground for I always thought the spot from where I was shooting would have made a nice Winter photo. Enjoy!
